Tu seras un homme papa is a true story. A story of a dazzling encounter between a father and his son. On one side, a man who is going to fight his greatest, most intimate fight. On the other, a newborn who will go through life at lightning speed: 13 days of life, uncertainties, hopes, tenderness and tears.
It is also the story of a family caught up in a physical and emotional ordeal that no one would want to have to go through. On stage, Gaël Leiblang immerses us in the diary of a father who fights to find the path to resilience and tries to tell the inexpressible human experience, often taboo, that is the loss of a child.
With poignant modesty, Gaël Leiblang (a former sports journalist and director of documentaries about legendary athletes) seizes the metaphor of the sporting event to relate his story in fragmented bursts. He lets us see those moments of life which mark us forever and what it means to be a body embarked on a crazy race to surpass oneself and, despite everything, to remain alive.
The performance is also a prize fight. Gaël Leiblang, with direction from Thibault Amorfini, has made the choice to play the show’s main protagonist, sweating it out in full view of the audience. In this American premiere, he takes to the stage in Boston as one would enter the ring, in order to tell his story and, especially, that of his son Roman.
